Oh, the joys of swinging sweetheart songs. When we go out serenading & singing music that is truly close to our hearts, it’s an undeniable feeling like none other – not because we’re dressed up in classy & stylish attire but because our hearts are truly into singing these songs. From the first note on to the last, we’re truly reflecting how special these songs are to us as well as to our chapter sweethearts. It’s no secret: the significance, meaning & power of our sweetheart songs can never be underestimated!!
However we choose to sing our songs – whether it’s a cappella, a la Glee, in barbershop mode, jazzed-up, soulfully, or even adding some musicians into the mix – the whole purpose & mission statement of our sweetheart songs should remain as is. To throw in a few extra lyrics or some inappropriate comments/interjections isn’t just wrong – it’s also an insult & a half as well. Our sweetheart songs were meant to be sung as they were written – that’s how near & close they will always be to our hearts!!
No matter how we deliver our sweetheart songs to sororities/fraternities – & no matter how colorfully – our sweetheart songs will always remain the same for us: timeless, enduring, powerful, significant in the meaning & emotion they carry & most of all, a way to express how much we love our Fraternities!!
