“You are always wearing your letters. From this day forward, always. Every day, in every situation. They never come off.“ – T.J. Sullivan
“If you’re going to put the letters on put them on your heart.” - David Stollman
Once you join a Sorority/Fraternity, you can’t say you’ve “arrived.” Nor can you say that you’ve “made it.” To be honest with you, once you’ve accepted that bid, you’ve just began the journey of a lifetime.
It’s true. This is the start of something which is not only cool/awesome. It’s also more-than-amazing.
You have your reasons for going Greek – & you have your reasons why you joined a Sorority/Fraternity in the first place. It’s for the friendship. It’s for the sisterhood. It’s for the philanthropy. It’s because you want to impact your campus & community through service. It’s for fun & good times. It’s because you’re looking for a second home away from home. It’s because you want to make your mark on campus as a leader, a difference-maker & empowered woman inspiring other women to realize their potential as leaders (& as the women they’ve always wanted to be).
Or it could just as well be for all of the above reasons.
Remember one thing: Once you’ve accepted your bid, the letters which you’re wearing will always be a part of you in more ways than one. Even when you’re not actually wearing those letters, they’re still going to be a part of you. You can’t ever forget them: those letters will define who you are, what you do & what you’re about. (Make no mistake, those letters are going to shape your identity as a member of both your Sorority/Fraternity & Panhellenic community.)
It must also be said that once you’ve accepted that bid, you not only wear your letters on your sleeve. You wear them proudly & sincerely on your heart as well. Whatever you say & do with those letters on not only reflects what others think of you as a sorority woman; your actions leave a lasting impact on your sisters, the Sorority/Fraternity you represent, your Panhellenic community & the Greek system in which you belong.
From this moment on, you have a charge to keep with those letters. They’re a responsibility for a lifetime, not just for a few years of college. These letters are here to stay, not just on a tee or a sweatshirt, but on your heart.
It’s true. These letters will always be a part of you.
