Delta Zeta: Still Doing Great Things

They see you doing big things & now they want to do it too…” – DJ $crilla

Ever since Delta Zeta’s inception, there can be no denying that the Sorority has been doing great things, inspiring, encouraging & empowering its members to make a difference & effect positive change for their campuses & the communities where they live.  Even now, Delta Zeta is still doing great things, showing others that Delta Zeta is not just enriching the world.  DZ’s also an enriching Sorority & experience like none other for who knows how many of its undergraduate & alumnae members!!

On campus, at home or in the real world, Delta Zetas are doing big things.  Whether it’s through academics, leading the way in the Panhellenic community, through volunteering, through philanthropy or through their efforts at work (among others), Delta Zeta’s undergraduate & alumnae leave no doubt that they’re helping out people all over the place. These amazing women are empowered.  They’re beacon lights to guide the way.  They’re inspirations.  They’re difference makers.

Or to make a long story short, Delta Zeta’s undergraduate & alumnae members are dedicated to enriching their campuses & communities!!

Doing big things:  for over a century, that’s exactly what Delta Zeta has done & so much more.  DeeZees not only know how to make heads turn – they’re also showing others why DZ is among the best of the best around at who knows how many small colleges & large universities!!

Fraternity Recruitment: Quantity Doesn’t Equal Quality

It’s the day after Rush Week.  We’re holding our heads up high & basking in the euphoria of how many men our chapters ended up getting during Fraternity Recruitment.  Right now, life is looking good, things are definitely on the up & up for our houses so there’s not much to complain about.

Or so we think.

Little do we know that attrition is going to set in as the days pass.  And with those passing days, we can’t help but ask ourselves some difficult questions:  “Where did we go wrong during the recruiting process?  Where did we fail these men?  What could we have done right during new membership programming?”

You could name any number of factors for why these men are deciding to bail from our new member programming/pledgeship.  Maybe it’s because their parents aren’t too thrilled about their sons deciding to go Greek.  Or it’s because their grades are slowly but surely starting to suffer.  Perhaps it’s because they’re not up to the demands which life as a new member asks of them.  Yet again it’s because of conduct unbecoming a pledge/new member, or because they simply aren’t pulling their weight.

Or worse yet, it’s because we fell asleep on the job when it came to selecting quality men for chapter membership.  We may not want to admit this simple truth, but still:  we must.  We have to.  We know we loused up & didn’t set the right standards/expectations during Rush Week.  In some way or other, we should hold ourselves accountable for not doing our job & doing it well.

The bottom line is:  quality does not equal quantity – it never did & never will.  When it comes to men living our organizations’ values, men embodying these values in all that they do, men who want to be positive leaders on campus & men who are committed to academic excellence – that’s what quality means!!  It’s not the number of men we get during Rush Week that we should proud of – it’s the quality of these future True Gentlemen, Balanced Men, Men of Good Character, etc. that we should praising, since these men will be shaping which direction our chapters will be taking!!

Sorority Recruitment: Truly Picture Perfect

When it comes to telling potential new members more about who we are & what our chapters are all about, a picture truly says a thousand words.  Whether it’s telling the PNMs about ourselves through a slide show in our chapter recruitment videos or through a poster-board collage at our recruitment information tables, the pictures we put up speak volumes about our sororities/fraternities in general:  real, strong, enriching, exceeding expectation, doing good, realizing our potential…the list goes on.

Ask yourself while you’re searching for photos to use in your recruitment videos & recruitment information table presentations :  do these pictures sincerely reflect what type of women are in our chapters?  Will they strike a resounding chord with the potential new members?  Will they prove to the PNMs that we’re not just about fun & good times but that we also like to work hard?    Do these pictures truly capture the very essence of our Sororities/Fraternities per se?  Do they also show how committed we are to living our organizations’ values?

Just think about it:  a picture can say a whole lot in ways that words cannot.  And when it comes to showing potential new members who we are, what we do & what we’re about, the pictures we’re going to use for presentational purpose during Formal Recruitment should truly reflect all of the above – not solely the fun & good times that we have, but also the more serious aspects of life in our sororities/fraternities!!
